Awwwards Website Awards

For a little inspiration for your next design project, there’s no finer site to take a look at than Awwwards. This website promotes the talent and effort of the best developers, designers and web agencies in the world – a quote taken directly from the team. It’s a great place to get ideas and knowledge from and also give the talent out there some valuable feedback.

It you want to get really involved you can participate with online debates, follow users or simply submit one of your own websites that you’ve developed or been actively involved with. It will be reviewed by some of the best designers in the world and, if it makes it past the jury, could appear as a “Site of the Day” – together with a floating ribbon (and that’s always gonna be a good talking point on your CV). If you’re a designer though, you really need to take a visit to get those motivational levels up. Whenever I develop a new website, there always comes a time when I need a jolt of inspiration. Online visual layouts can be quite limiting (although admittedly styling and coding have come a long way in the last few years) compared to designing a logo for example. Having a website gallery like this is like having a living sketchbook that not only you have contributed to, but also some of the best proven creatives out there.

We all suffer from creative block though. This can be mentally frustrating as you constantly keep thinking about that same idea over and over in your head. It will not only give you a headache it could potentially lose you that valuable client. You’ve got a deadline to hit, they’ve got a budget and a product to sell. Yet that same logo / site / visual won’t go away and no other options seem to materialise.

The answer? Look at the problem from a different angle. Talk to friends or colleagues about your idea, get their honest feedback. It may be brutal, they may totally disagree with you, but they will offer you an alternative view. Being open to suggestions and looking at it from another perspective will give you the ability to change your mind and expand on all creative possibilities.
